This May, PMI participated in a fund raiser by Chicago chef, Gabriel Viti, who pledged to climb Mt. Everest and donate all the money raised to a Chicago charity called Keshet. Keshet provides supplemental education to students with learning disabilities. Their goal is to “enable children with disabilities to participate as fully as possible in the mainstream of community life while providing an excellent liberal and social education”. Since 1984, Keshet has been helping learning disabled children in the Chicago area learn how to process information and function independently in mainstream classrooms and workplaces. They are committed to giving students the one-on-one attention they need to be successful while allowing them the freedom to connect with and learn from their typically-abled peers. The people at Keshet know that life is more enriching when people are allowed to learn from each others’ differences and that everyone can benefit from the learning models set up by their organization.
Along with supplemental education for school-aged children, Keshet offers summer programs for kids and adult programs for those transitioning out of school and into the workplace and independent life. Through individualized education plans and social training, the students that participate in Keshet are able to develop the skills they need to be independent in the real world.
Gabriel Vitti’s Mt. Everest climb raised over $200,000 dollars from various sponsors on behalf of Keshet. Everyone at PMI is happy to have had the opportunity to contribute to such a great organization.
